THUMB SHACK

Pattern of Life Case Study
Mr. Thumb and his black lab told us the sound of wood hissing and popping in the fireplace on a cold winter's night is essential. They’ve known the remote lakeside neighborhood for many years, they love “up north“ Midwestern seasons, and they have a very developed idea of what a “right sized“ cabin should be.
Ultimately, Mr. Thumb wanted a very small log cabin with a very simple floor plan; including a bathroom, a small kitchen, a wood burning stove in a small main room and a sleeping loft.
Hand-drawn plans, elevations and sections were all the design team needed to reference. It was simple yet innovative. And it turned out beautifully.
The Thumbshack is a wonderful escape from work and civilization – as a cozy solo retreat, but with adequate room for visits from Mr. Thumb’s 2 older kids. There’s a view of both the lake and the dense woods – remote enough to experience pristine nature, but groomed enough for accessiblity and outdoor athletic activity.
