 PHASE 1: INSPIRATION

Originally built in 1894, the house is a prominent survivor in a vibrant Victorian neighborhood. The new owners’ primary objective is to preserve history in as much of the house as possible while updating to accommodate a growing modern family.

 PHASE 2: DESIGN

Among the first historic considerations was preserving the palladian windows, natural cabinetry and millwork, and the salvaged pieces stored in the old garage. A bonus asset was the reservoir of family experience in carpentry and restoration. Modern design priorities include sustainability, energy efficiency and adaptability to the needs of a growing family.

  PHASE 3: LIFESTYLE

NYC transplants, the owners are familiar with maximizing limited space, so they are especially appreciative of the generous lifestyle opportunities afforded by the house & neighborhood. They look forward to the ongoing process of further improvements with a view to honoring the history of the house, its carbon footprint, its community context, and their growing family.
